The “PICVS” or woodpecker was holy to Romans and Samnite; it was one of the two animals that natured the twins of Rome. The Samnites, descendants of the Sabellica lineage, owe their arrival in Sannio also to the god Picvs, who is tied to the Ver Sacrum legend. In ancient days, groups of young me, who were chosen at the holy spring, would leave in search of new lands to live and cultivate, following totem animals, like the woodpecker, holy to the God Mars, considered oracular by Sanntes, Piceni and Romans.

The "SECUTOR" hunter or pursuer, was a gladiator of some Samnite origin in Roman times. Choice born from the need to draw attention to a page of the millenary history that belonged to an interesting territory, rich in tradition and culture which is certainly the Sannio.
