The “PICVS” or woodpecker was holy to Romans and Samnite; it was one of the two animals that natured the twins of Rome. The Samnites, descendants of the Sabellica lineage, owe their arrival in Sannio also to the god Picvs, who is tied to the Ver Sacrum legend.
